# Windows 11 Keyboard Shortcuts Cheatsheet

## Before you use the keys

- `Windows 11`: These shortcuts use standard Windows 11 key assignments
- `Win`: The Windows logo key
- `Plus sign (+)`: Hold the modifier, then press the other key; do not type +
- `App and keyboard differences`: Some applications or keyboard layouts change these shortcuts

## Edit text

- `Ctrl + C`: Copy the selection
- `Ctrl + X`: Cut the selection
- `Ctrl + V`: Paste clipboard content
- `Ctrl + Z`: Undo the previous action when the app supports it
- `Ctrl + A`: Select all items or text in the current context
- `Ctrl + Left / Right`: Move the cursor by one word
- `Ctrl + Shift + Left / Right`: Extend the text selection by one word

## Move between windows

- `Alt + Tab`: Switch between open windows
- `Win + Tab`: Open Task View
- `Win + D`: Show or hide the desktop
- `Win + Left / Right`: Snap the current window to a side
- `Win + Up`: Maximize the current window
- `Win + Z`: Open snap layouts for the current window

## Open Windows tools

- `Win + E`: Open File Explorer
- `Win + I`: Open Settings
- `Win + S`: Open Search
- `Win + L`: Lock the computer
- `Ctrl + Shift + Esc`: Open Task Manager
- `Win + R`: Open the Run dialog

## Work with files

- `F2`: Rename the selected item
- `Ctrl + Shift + N`: Create a folder in File Explorer
- `Alt + Left`: Go back in File Explorer
- `Alt + Right`: Go forward in File Explorer
- `Alt + Up`: Go to the parent folder in File Explorer
- `Alt + Enter`: Open properties for the selected item

## Capture, clipboard, and desktops

- `Win + Shift + S`: Select a screen area for a screenshot
- `Win + V`: Open clipboard history; enable it before its first use
- `Win + .`: Open the emoji and symbol panel
- `Win + Ctrl + D`: Create a virtual desktop
- `Win + Ctrl + Left / Right`: Switch between virtual desktops
- `Win + Ctrl + F4`: Close the current desktop; move its windows to another desktop
