# Markdown Table to Image

Paste a markdown table, render a styled HTML table, download as PNG. No signup. Runs entirely in your browser.

**Use this tool:** [Markdown Table to Image](https://findutils.com/developers/markdown-table-to-image/)

## Programmatic access

- REST id `markdown-table-parse`: POST https://api.findutils.com/api/tools/markdown-table-parse/execute (reference: https://findutils.com/api/markdown-table-parse/)
- MCP tool `markdown_table_parse` on https://mcp.findutils.com (reference: https://findutils.com/mcp/markdown-table-parse/)

## Tips

- The first row is treated as the header. The second row must be the divider with optional alignment markers.
- Use `:---` for left alignment, `:---:` for center, `---:` for right. The divider row is not rendered.
- Inline code (text between backticks) renders in monospace inside cells.
- The minimal theme prints best; the dark theme works well over dark slides.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does this tool support GitHub-flavored markdown alignment?

Yes. The divider row's alignment markers are respected — `:---` left-aligns the column, `:---:` centers, and `---:` right-aligns. Plain `---` defaults to left.

### Where does my markdown go?

Nowhere. Parsing and rendering happen in your browser; the PNG export uses an in-browser DOM-to-canvas library. Nothing is uploaded or logged.

### Can I use this for tables with hundreds of rows?

Yes, but the rendered PNG height grows with row count. For very long tables consider splitting into multiple images or using a CSV-to-image tool instead.

### How do I customize the table style further?

The three theme presets cover most use cases. For brand-specific styling, copy the rendered HTML, paste into the Code Screenshot Generator, or open it in your design tool of choice.

### Why not export as SVG?

SVG export of arbitrary HTML is finicky across browsers because of font rendering and image embedding rules. PNG at 2x device-pixel-ratio gives a sharper result with no compatibility surprises.

### Does the tool handle GitHub-Flavored Markdown alignment markers?

Yes. The divider-row syntax is parsed exactly per the GFM spec::--- left-aligns the column,:---: centers, ---: right-aligns, plain --- defaults to left. Cell text is rendered with the matching CSS text-align so the exported PNG matches what you'd see on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or any GFM-compatible renderer. Inline backtick-code inside cells renders in monospace at 0.875em with a subtle background tint.

### What's the difference between GFM, CommonMark, and Pandoc tables?

GitHub-Flavored Markdown (GFM) tables are the de-facto standard — pipe-delimited with a divider row that supports alignment markers (:--- left,:---: center, ---: right). CommonMark is the strict-spec parent and does NOT include tables in its core grammar; most CommonMark renderers add them as an extension that follows GFM syntax. Pandoc supports four table flavors (simple, multiline, grid, pipe) — its pipe tables match GFM. This tool reads the GFM/pipe variant since it's what GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Notion, Slack, Linear, and most modern markdown engines use. If you have a Pandoc multiline or grid table, convert it to pipe format first.

### Why is the rendered PNG higher-resolution than the preview?

The on-screen preview is rendered at 1× device-pixel-ratio (the canvas matches your CSS viewport). The PNG export is rendered at 2× DPR via the modern-screenshot library, so the resulting image looks crisp on Retina/HiDPI displays and when scaled up in slide decks. The trade-off is the file size is roughly 4× larger than a 1× export — for a typical 6-row table the 2× PNG is about 80-150 KB.

### Can I use the exported image commercially?

Yes. The conversion is purely text-and-CSS rendering — no AI, no copyrighted assets, no fonts that require licensing for redistribution (the tool uses system-ui / Georgia for the three theme presets). The exported PNG is yours to use however you want including in commercial products, paid blog posts, books, or client slide decks. The only caveat is the underlying data: if your markdown contains copyrighted text (a quote from someone else's article, proprietary numbers from a client report) the rendered image carries the same restrictions as the source.

### Is the output accessible to screen readers?

PNG output is image-of-text and is therefore invisible to screen readers — same accessibility limitation as any image of text content. For accessible documentation always include the original markdown source as alt text on the image, or include the table data as a caption nearby. For destinations where editing matters (Notion databases, Google Sheets, Airtable, accessible WCAG-compliant docs), prefer the native table format over a PNG. Image export is the right choice when the destination doesn't render markdown (Keynote, Google Slides, social-media posts) or when visual consistency across destinations matters more than re-editability.
