# Text Reverse

Reverse text by character, word or line in your browser. Emoji, flags and accented letters stay whole, and Windows line endings are kept. No signup.

**Use this tool:** [Text Reverse](https://findutils.com/text/text-reverse/)

## Programmatic access

- REST id `text-reverse`: POST https://api.findutils.com/api/tools/text-reverse/execute (reference: https://findutils.com/api/text-reverse/)
- MCP tool `text_reverse` on https://mcp.findutils.com (reference: https://findutils.com/mcp/text-reverse/)
- Data: The REST API and the MCP tool are a separate path from this page: a call sends the input you include to FindUtils over HTTPS, where it is processed and the result returned. FindUtils does not store that input, and logs the request without its content.

## Why use a text reverser?

Reversing a string sounds trivial until the text has emoji, flags or accented letters. A naive reversal splits them: a flag becomes two different letters, and an accent jumps to the wrong vowel. Text Reverse reverses what a reader sees as characters, and it can also reverse the order of words or of lines, which is the quicker way to flip a list that was sorted the wrong way round.

## Tips

- To reverse each word in place, without moving the words, reverse the characters and then reverse the words of the result.
- Lines mode does not sort. Use the Text Line Sorter when you need alphabetical or numeric order.
- A trailing newline at the end of pasted text becomes an empty first line in Lines mode. Remove it first with the Whitespace Cleaner if that matters.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What does Text Reverse do?

Text Reverse writes your text backwards in one of three ways. Characters mode reverses every character, so "Hello" becomes "olleH". Words mode keeps each word and reverses their order, so "one two three" becomes "three two one". Lines mode keeps each line and reverses the order of the lines. The result updates as you type and can be copied with one click.

### Do emoji, flags and accented letters stay intact?

Yes. Characters mode reverses grapheme clusters, the units a reader sees as one character, using the browser's Intl.Segmenter. A flag such as 🇹🇷 is two code points that must stay in order, an emoji family is several emoji joined by invisible characters, and é can be an e followed by a combining accent. Each of these is moved as one unit, so the flag does not turn into a different flag and the accent stays on its letter.

### How does Words mode handle spaces and punctuation?

Words mode splits the text at runs of whitespace and reverses the pieces, keeping the spacing between them. Punctuation stays attached to the word it touches, so "Hello, world!" becomes "world! Hello,". The letters inside each word are not changed.

### What happens to line endings in Lines mode?

If the text contains Windows line endings (CRLF), the reversed lines are joined with CRLF; otherwise they are joined with LF. Blank lines count as lines and move with the rest, so a trailing empty line becomes a leading one.

### Is there a size limit?

The page takes up to 1,000,000 characters at a time and shows an error above that. The MCP tool has the same 1,000,000-character limit, and the REST endpoint accepts up to 100,000 characters per request.

### Is my text uploaded?

Not on this page. The text is reversed in your browser with JavaScript, and nothing you paste is sent to a server. The REST API and MCP tool are a separate path: a call sends the text you include to FindUtils over HTTPS, where it is reversed and the result returned. FindUtils does not store that input, and logs the request without its content.

### Can I reverse text from a script or an AI client?

Yes. The same function powers the REST tool text-reverse at api.findutils.com, whose mode is characters, words or lines, and the MCP tool text_reverse at mcp.findutils.com, whose mode is chars, words or lines. The Run it from code card on this page shows a working request.

### Does it make mirror or upside-down text?

No. Text Reverse changes the order of characters, words or lines; it does not flip the shape of each letter. Mirror and upside-down text use different Unicode look-alike characters, which this tool does not substitute.
