How to Create a Seating Chart
- 1
Set Your Grid Size
Choose the number of rows and columns to match your classroom or event space. The grid supports layouts up to 10 by 10, giving you room for up to 100 seats. - 2
Add Attendee Names
Type each name manually and click Add, or import a full class roster from a CSV, TXT, or Excel file. Duplicates are detected and skipped automatically. - 3
Assign Seats
Click Shuffle and Assign for random placement, or use the dropdown on each seat to assign individuals manually. Drag and drop is also supported for quick rearrangements. - 4
Print or Export
Once you are satisfied with the layout, hit Print for a clean printable version or Export to save the chart as a file. Controls and settings are hidden automatically in the printed output.

Why use our Seating Chart Maker?
The FindUtils Seating Chart Maker is a free browser-based tool that helps teachers, event planners, and administrators create customized seating arrangements in minutes. Set any grid size from 2x2 to 10x10, add names manually or import them from a CSV or Excel file, and assign seats with a single click. The random shuffle feature distributes people fairly without bias, while manual drag-and-drop lets you fine-tune placements for specific needs like pairing students for peer tutoring or separating disruptive combinations.
Unlike paid classroom management software, this tool requires no account, no download, and no subscription. Everything runs in your browser, so student names and seating data never leave your device. You can print a clean, formatted chart directly from the page or export the roster for your records. Teachers who need additional classroom tools can pair this with the Random Name Picker for cold-calling or the Quiz Maker to build quick assessments.
For event coordinators managing weddings or corporate functions, the flexible grid system adapts to any venue layout. Combine this tool with the Countdown Timer to keep your event on schedule, or use the Attendance Sheet Generator to create a check-in list that matches your seating plan. Whether you are organizing 20 students or 100 conference attendees, the Seating Chart Maker handles it without cost or complexity.
How It Compares
Most seating chart tools on the market either require a paid subscription or force you to create an account before you can start. Platforms like Mega Seating Plan and Social Tables offer advanced floor plan editors, but their free tiers are limited to a handful of charts or attendees. The FindUtils Seating Chart Maker takes a different approach: it is completely free with no sign-up, no usage caps, and no watermarks on printed charts. All processing happens locally in your browser, which means student names and personal data are never uploaded to a server.
Where this tool excels is speed and simplicity. You do not need to learn a complex floor plan editor or watch tutorial videos. Set your grid, add names, and you are done in under two minutes. For educators and organizers who need a quick, reliable seating arrangement without the overhead of enterprise software, this free alternative covers the essentials while keeping student data private.
