How to Generate Windows Update Scripts

  1. 1

    Select Your Windows Version

Choose between Windows 10 or 11, and specify Home or Pro/Enterprise/Education. Home editions have fewer options since Group Policy Editor is not available.
  2. 2

    Pick a Preset or Customize

Choose a quick preset like Gamer Mode, Full Control, or Safe Deferral. Or switch to Custom Settings to configure each option individually across update behavior, restart control, drivers, and services.
  3. 3

    Review the Generated Code

Preview the exact .reg file, PowerShell script, or batch file that will be generated. Read the summary of changes and risk level assessment before downloading.
  4. 4

    Download and Apply

Download both the Apply and Restore scripts. Run the apply script as administrator, restart your computer, and use the restore script whenever you want to revert to default settings.

Common Use Cases

Gamers Preventing Mid-Game Restarts

Block automatic restarts and background downloads during gaming sessions. The Gamer Mode preset configures settings to prevent Windows from interrupting gameplay.

Limited Bandwidth Connections

Mark your connection as metered and disable P2P update sharing to prevent Windows from consuming bandwidth during video calls, streaming, or remote work.

Preventing Broken Driver Updates

Disable automatic driver updates that can cause hardware compatibility issues with graphics cards, printers, or specialized peripherals after Windows updates.

IT Administrators Managing Fleet Devices

Generate standardized scripts to deploy consistent update policies across multiple machines without manually configuring each one through the Settings app.

Why Use Windows Update Settings Generator?

Windows updates can interrupt your workflow with unexpected restarts, consume bandwidth, or install drivers that cause compatibility issues. While tools like Windows Update Blocker and StopUpdates10 exist as desktop applications, there was no web-based solution — until now. This generator lets you configure exactly how Windows handles updates and produces ready-to-use .reg files, PowerShell scripts, or batch files. Every change is previewed before downloading, so you know exactly what will happen. Choose from quick presets like Gamer Mode or Full Control, or fine-tune each setting individually. Everything runs entirely in your browser. No software to install, no data sent to any server. The generated scripts include detailed comments and matching restore files to undo any changes.

The Windows Update Settings Generator produces ready-to-use .reg files, PowerShell scripts, and batch files that control how Windows handles automatic updates. Instead of navigating through multiple Settings panels and Group Policy Editor screens, this tool lets you configure everything from a single web interface and download scripts you can apply with one click.

Windows updates are essential for security, but automatic restarts during work sessions, bandwidth consumption during video calls, and driver updates that break hardware compatibility are common frustrations. This tool addresses each scenario with targeted presets: Gamer Mode blocks restarts and background downloads, Full Control disables all update mechanisms, Safe Deferral delays updates without fully disabling them, and Low Bandwidth optimizes for limited internet connections.

Every generated script includes detailed comments explaining each change, and a matching restore script that reverts everything to Windows defaults. The risk level indicator helps you understand the implications of each configuration. For additional system security tools, see the Password Generator and Privacy Policy Generator.

How It Compares

Desktop utilities like Windows Update Blocker (WUB), StopUpdates10, and Wu10Man provide similar functionality but require downloading and running executable files from third-party sources. FindUtils Windows Update Settings Generator runs entirely in your browser, generates transparent scripts you can inspect before running, and includes restore files for every change. You always see exactly what will happen before applying anything.

Compared to manually editing the Windows Registry or configuring Group Policy, this tool eliminates the risk of typos in registry paths, missing values, or forgetting to disable WaaSMedicSvc. The Simple Mode wizard is accessible to non-technical users, while Advanced Mode gives power users full control over every setting.

Windows Update Tips

  • Always create a System Restore Point before applying any registry or service changes so you can roll back if something goes wrong.
  • Download both the Apply and Restore scripts together. Keep the restore script accessible in case you need to re-enable updates quickly.
  • The Full Control preset disables WaaSMedicSvc, which prevents Windows from silently re-enabling update services after a reboot.
  • Even with updates disabled, periodically check for security patches manually to keep your system protected against new vulnerabilities.
  • Use the Simple Mode wizard if you are not comfortable with registry keys and service names. It asks about your problems and configures everything automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Microsoft Store stop working?
If you disable the Windows Update service (wuauserv), Microsoft Store won't be able to download or update apps. You can temporarily re-enable the service when needed, then disable it again.
Will Windows Defender updates stop?
Defender definition updates typically arrive through a separate channel even when update policies are disabled. However, if services are fully disabled, Defender updates may also be affected.
Can I reverse the changes?
Yes! Every download includes a matching restore file that reverts all changes to Windows defaults. You can also use System Restore to roll back.
What's the difference between Home and Pro?
Windows Home edition doesn't include Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc). Home users can only use Registry and service management methods. Pro, Enterprise, and Education users have additional Group Policy options.
Why do updates keep coming back?
Windows Update Medic Service (WaaSMedicSvc) automatically re-enables other update services. You need to also disable this service, or use the Full Control preset which handles it automatically.
Is this tool safe? Is my data collected?
This tool runs entirely in your browser (client-side). No data is sent to any server. You can preview the exact contents of every generated file before downloading.
