PatternEvery code is the prefix plus random characters, split into groups.

Optional. Added to the front of every code.

The letters and digits codes are drawn from

Characters after the prefix, 1 to 32

0 keeps the code in one piece

Placed between groups

Up to 10,000 per batch

PatternXXXX-XXXX

This pattern allows 852,891,037,441 different codes (31⁸: 31 characters, length 8).

Codes

Set the pattern and press Generate.

On this page, the codes are made in your browser and are not uploaded.

How the pattern works

Prefix and groups

The prefix goes first and is never split. The random part is cut into groups of the size you choose, joined by the separator.

Look-alike characters

With the toggle on, 0, O, 1, I and L are left out, so a code read aloud or typed from a receipt is not mistaken for another.

Combinations

The number of different codes is the size of the character set to the power of the length. Ask for more than that and the tool says so.

How to generate coupon codes

  1. Set the pattern

Type a prefix if you want one, choose the character set, the code length and the group size. Keep No look-alike characters on for codes people will type.
  2. Choose how many

Enter how many codes to make, up to 10,000. The line under the pattern shows how many different codes it allows.
  3. Generate and export

Press Generate codes. Copy all puts every code on your clipboard, one per line, and Download CSV saves them as a file.

Common use cases

Single-use discount codes

Make one code per customer for a newsletter or a printed flyer, and import the CSV into your shop.

Gift cards and vouchers

Print codes in groups of four without look-alike characters, so they are easy to read and type.

Event tickets and invitations

Give every guest a different code with an event prefix, and check it at the door against your list.

Test data

Fill a staging database with realistic, unique codes to test a checkout or a redemption flow.

Why use a coupon code generator?

Codes typed by hand repeat, follow a pattern a customer can guess, and mix up 0 and O. A generator draws every character at random, keeps every code in a batch different, and can leave out the characters people misread. This one takes the pattern your shop needs, a prefix, a length, a character set and groups, and gives you the batch as a list to copy or a CSV to import.

The Coupon Code Generator makes up to 10,000 unique random codes at a time from a pattern you set: an optional prefix, a random part of 1 to 32 characters, a character set (uppercase and digits, uppercase, digits, lowercase and digits, or your own), and optional groups joined by a hyphen, an underscore or a dot. No look-alike characters removes 0, O, 1, I and L so codes are not misread. Random characters come from crypto.getRandomValues with unbiased sampling, and the tool refuses a batch larger than the number of codes the pattern allows.

Copy every code at once or download them as a CSV. On this page, the codes are made in your browser and are not uploaded. The same function is available as the MCP tool coupon_code_generator and on the REST API.

Tips

  • Groups of four with a hyphen are easier to read aloud than one long string.
  • Keep the prefix short; it is the same in every code, so it adds nothing to how hard a code is to guess.
  • Make one batch for each campaign, so the prefix tells you where a code came from.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Coupon Code Generator make codes?

It builds each code from your pattern: the prefix, then a random part of the length you choose, drawn from the character set you pick and split into groups if you ask. The random characters come from crypto.getRandomValues, and random values that would make some characters more likely than others are thrown away, so every character has the same chance. Every code in a batch is different.

Are the codes unique?

Yes, within a batch: the generator keeps drawing until it has as many different codes as you asked for, so no code appears twice. It cannot see codes from an earlier batch or codes already in your shop. To add codes later, use a new prefix, or check the new batch against your existing codes before you import it.

How many codes can I make at once?

Up to 10,000 per batch, on this page and through the API. The pattern must also allow at least that many different codes: 50 codes of length 1 from 10 digits are refused, because only 10 different one-digit codes exist. Lengthen the code or widen the character set to make more.

What does No look-alike characters do?

It removes 0, O, 1, I and L (and o, i and l in lowercase) from the character set, so a code read aloud, printed small or typed from a receipt is not mistaken for another. Uppercase plus digits goes from 36 characters to 31, which lowers the number of possible codes; the line under the pattern shows the new number before you generate.

How hard are the codes to guess?

Each code is one of all the codes the pattern allows, picked at random with equal chance, and the line under the pattern says how many that is. 8 characters from the 31 without look-alikes allow 852,891,037,441 codes; a longer code or a larger set allows more. A generator cannot limit how often codes are tried at checkout or how many times each one can be used, so set both in your shop.

What is in the CSV file?

One column with the header code and one code per row, in the order shown on the page. Every code starts with a letter or digit, so a spreadsheet does not read a cell as a formula. If your shop imports codes from a CSV, rename the header to match its import template.

Can I use my own characters?

Yes. Choose Custom and type the letters and digits to draw from; repeats are ignored, and at least 2 different characters must remain after look-alikes are removed. If your shop treats codes as case-insensitive, do not mix upper and lower case in a custom set, because two codes that differ only in case would count as the same code there.

Are my codes uploaded?

Not on this page. The codes are made in your browser with the Web Crypto API, and they are not sent to a server when you generate, copy or download them. The REST API and MCP tool are a separate path: a call sends the input you include to FindUtils over HTTPS, where it is processed and the result returned. FindUtils does not store that input, and logs the request without its content.

Can I make codes from a script or an AI client?

Yes. The same function runs as the MCP tool coupon_code_generator at mcp.findutils.com and on the REST API at api.findutils.com, with the arguments count, length, prefix, charset, custom_charset, exclude_lookalikes, group_size and separator. It returns the codes with the character set used and the number of possible codes.
