Why use this pace calculator?
Pace, distance and time are three views of the same run, and which one you know first depends on whether you are planning a session, reading a watch, or chasing a target. Enter any two and the third appears, along with what that pace means for the four standard race distances. Useful for pacing a long run, setting a target split, or checking whether a goal time is realistic.
Frequently Asked Questions
What time formats does it accept?
mm:ss for anything under an hour (25:30), h:mm:ss for longer (1:45:00), or a plain number read as minutes (90 means an hour and a half). Pace is always mm:ss per kilometre or per mile.
How are the race times projected?
By holding your pace constant over 5K, 10K, 21.0975K and 42.195K. That is a straight extrapolation, not a physiological model, so real marathon times are usually slower than a 5K pace suggests.
Why does feeding the pace back not give exactly the same time?
A displayed pace is rounded to whole seconds per kilometre or mile. Over a half marathon, one second of rounding is about 21 seconds of finish time, so re-entering a rounded pace lands a little either side of where you started.
Can I switch between kilometres and miles?
Yes, and the unit applies to both the distance and the pace. The race projections are defined in kilometres and are converted for you.
What does the speed figure mean?
Your average speed in kilometres or miles per hour, which is the same information as pace expressed the way a treadmill displays it.
